Roger Federer's Extensive Rolex Collection

Writer: TJ Editorial Team

When you hear the name ‘Roger Federer’ thrown around you instantly think of the tennis legend and his majestic, humble nature on and off court.

Another word you may think of when the Swiss icon is mentioned is ‘Rolex‘.

In his early 20s, Federer began endorsing Rolex before getting a 5-year sponsorship deal with Swiss watch brand Maurice Lacroix. However, it didn’t take long for Rolex to lure Roger back in 2006 only 2 years into his current deal, offering him one of the largest single endorsements for any professional athlete at the time. $15 million over 10 years, or $1.5 million per year.

The deal came at a time when Federer was at the peak of his game, reaching the final of every tournament he entered in 2006 except one, and a 92-5 win-loss record (4 losses to Nadal, 1 loss to Murray). Since the beginning of their partnership, the 20-time grand slam champion has worn various Rolex models throughout ceremonies, promotional shoots and vacations.

In 2016, following the final year of the contract, Rolex renewed their partnership with Federer as his career showed no signs of diminishing. The deal was worth $8 million per year, for a further 10 years.

Despite the current contract expiring in 2027, fans expect the deal to be extended for a second time, with Federer remaining the face of Rolex throughout his retirement from professional tennis.

So, to celebrate this classy, refined, longstanding partnership, we’ve collected the best of Roger Federer’s Rolex watch collection, with each model signifying a momentous occasion for the Swiss legend.

The watch, initially developed for sailors, has a setting mechanism controlled by a ring command bezel as well as a regatta timer allowing you to select a countdown interval of anything from one to ten minutes.

It’s been worn by others including David Beckham, Mark Wahlberg and Bruce Willis and is the perfect piece to spice up a suit (or a winning Grand Slam Ceremony).

Record Breaker: 2009 Wimbledon Rolex Datejust II Silver Blue Arabic

One of the most meaningful watches in Roger Federer’s collection is his 2009 Wimbledon Rolex Datejust II Silver Blue Arabic.

Roger won the 2009 Wimbledon Championships with an incredible victory over American Andy Roddick, propelling him to become the leader for the most grand slam titles of any man in history.

The previous record, held by Pete Sampras (14) seemed to be of the impression it would stand forever, however, Roger rose to the occasion and did so with style.

"When I was finally able to lift the trophy, I was wearing my Rolex on my wrist. This is why this watch is particularly important to me. When I look at it, I remember that day very vividly."

"Every time I put on my Rolex, it reminds me of those great moments. It also reminds me that if you do not work hard, somebody else will, and they will eventually pass you. So you’ve got to be tough and even ruthless to some extent, but always be fair and play with style."

Simple and classy. Roger wore this 60th Anniversary dial Rolex Day-Date after a heartbreaking loss to Novak Djokovic in the final.

Facing multiple match points, it was a loss that we still haven’t stomached. Despite this, his watch game was once again on point with this model.

2021 Rolex Daytona 'Big Red'

On vacation, the Swiss maestro was spotted with one of the most iconic vintage watches of all time.

The Rolex Daytona Ref. 6263 ‘Big Red’.

This watch was made famous by cinema icon Paul Newman, and features a 367mm case and a black dial.

Introduced in 1969 it gets its nickname from the instantly recognisable red “Daytona” lettering just below the centre of the dial. Looking like something straight out of a bond film, this iconic piece simply hasn’t aged.

Though Paul Newman’s original Ref. 6263 sold for $5.475 million in December 2020, collectors can get their hands on a model for $120,000-$150,000.

2022 Rolex GMT Master II 'Sprite'

A watch that will forever have a strong emotional connection with Roger is the 18k White Gold Daytona that he wore during his retirement announcement.

A career that spanned 24 years, and included 20 majors, 28 ATP Masters 1000, Olympic gold medals and a total 302 weeks at world number 1 came to an end in late 2022.

Roger chose to go out in style when announcing his heartfelt farewell to the sport he loved, gracing his forearms with the frosty white ‘Meteorite’ Daytona in 18k white gold.

After many years of battles against enemies and rivals on the court, particularly Djokovic, Nadal and Murray, Federer would finally be able to call them teammates during his farewell to tennis.

To match the occasion, he wore a minimalistic, classy Rolex Air King in stainless steel.

It’s not an accident that on his farewell day to celebrate several moments in the sport’s history, he chose to keep it simple.

It features a bi-directional bezel and became widely popular as it shares history with tennis royalty.
