Jacob and Co. Godfather Watch Features

The Story

The Opera Godfather Musical Watch emerged from the visionary collaboration between Jacob & Co. and Paramount Pictures, the studio that produced “The Godfather”, a film high on our (and everyone else’s) all-time favourite list.

This partnership birthed a piece that blends the complexity of ultra-high-end watchmaking with the soul-stirring melodies of Francis Ford Coppola’s iconic score from the film.

The JCFM04 Movement

At the core of the watch is the exclusive JCFM04 movement, a marvel of horological engineering comprising 658 components.

Crafted from a blend of steel, brass, platinum, and titanium, this intricate mechanism powers not only the precise timekeeping but also the musical box component, and has been used on all models made by Jacob & Co.

The Musical Marvel

At the heart of the watch lies a musical feature that brings the melody of  “The Godfather” to life.

With the simple press of a button, two rotating cylinders, covered with brilliant white diamonds, produce 120 notes of the iconic tune, with the keys of the 18k gold piano appearing to move to the sound of the music.

Triple-Axis Gravitational Tourbillon

Elevating the Opera Godfather’s abilities is its triple-axis tourbillon, a feat of precision engineering and timeless heritage. With delicate rotations on three axes, this tourbillon ensures impeccable timekeeping while showcasing Jacob & Co’s dedication to pushing the boundaries of innovation.

The Tourbillon, a 224-year-old invention comprises 104 components that altogether weigh only 1.15 grams. This means an average component weight of just 0.011 grams, creating a spectacular constellation of individually barely visible parts that, when combined and assembled, perfectly fulfil the duty of this watch – to keep time, accurately.

A full rotation on the 1st axis takes 24 seconds, on the 2nd axis 8 seconds, and on the third axis 30 seconds.

The Case and Crystal

Crafted from 18K Rose Gold, the Opera Godfather’s case and lug structure provide an enhanced feel when the watch is on your wrist.

This, paired with its unique domed sapphire crystal, offers a captivating view of the intricate details within, while the violin-shaped winding crank in place of the traditional crown, adds a touch of whimsy to its design.

Miniature Figurine and Violin Crank

At the centre of the watch is a handcrafted miniature figurine of the Godfather himself, with sleek hair, a tuxedo on, and a cigar in hand, he’s a silent observer of the symphony unfolding around him.

On the side, the violin-shaped winding crank with its intricate detailing pays homage to the musical heritage and easily folds out and in for usability.

The Dial and Hands

Against a backdrop of matte black, the dial and hands stand out in highly polished gold, while the blue-finished hands glide across the sub-dial, ensuring effortless readability amidst the intricacies of its musical and timekeeping functions.

When the music is playing, the entire platform of the Opera Godfather rotates, while the time display sub-dial consistently maintains its correct 12/6 orientation

With its triple-axis tourbillon, musical complication, and meticulous craftsmanship, the Opera Godfather Watch stands as a testament to Jacob & Co’s commitment to watchmaking excellence.
