El Fureidis is a big house with a big history. Sitting on about 10 acres in Montecito, California, it’s been around since 1906, and is most famous for appearing as Tony Montana’s mansion in Scarface.
Now, the Mediterranean-style villa that’s worth more than entire movie sets is back on the market for just under $40 million.
The mansion from ‘Scarface’ has listed for $40 million
The design draws from a mix of Roman, Spanish, Persian and Byzantine influences. The original architect, Bertram Goodhue, travelled the world before building the estate, bringing back details that show up in the ornate tilework, gold-leaf ceilings and hand-painted frescoes.
There’s not much subtle about the place, with a grand dome in the “conversation room” that alone makes it clear the place was designed to impress. Outside, fountains and reflecting pools populate the gardens and the ocean view of the ocean from the terraces gives it a rare charm.
The mansion was immortalised in Scarface, but the movie only featured the outside. The inside was mostly sets, though designed to loosely match the real interior.
The $40 million listing includes the main house, guest cottages, gardens, fountains, pools and ocean facing terraces, spanning roughly 11,500 square feet with multiple bedrooms. It’s a rare opportunity for its history but also the location in Montecito, a hotspot for luxurious privacy.
Montecito is one of the preferred hideout locations for the billionaires and well-known people who value discretion, with the area home to many prominent figures like Katy Perry, Prince Harry and Gwyneth Paltrow.
