Hidden at the end of a driveway lined with bamboo in East Hampton, is an island-like retreat home that avoids the cliches of the Hamptons mansion scene.
Instead of an oversized shingle estate, this one is made up of separate cedar-clad pods connected by glass corridors. The home sits just above Gardiners Bay and has hit the market for around US $7.3 million
The design was intentionally simple, with each pod balancing privacy with openness, and street-facing walls wrapped in ward cedar and the opposite side made almost entirely of glass.
The structure still manages to take advantage of the bay views, despite being surrounded by nature, and the pavilion-like home also includes an outdoor pool.
Inside, the palette is neutral, polished concrete floors, black steel beams and clean lines giving it a gallery like feel, far from the famous Hamptons whites. The main living area opens to the view and the bedrooms are further towards the quieter end of the house.
Certainly a home that priotises restraint instead of excess, with the materials and architecture doing most of the talking.
