The Exclusive Japanese Whiskey You Can Only Buy Flying First Class

Writer: TJ Editorial Team

If you’re a whiskey enthusiast – or just love rare finds – there’s a limited edition Japanese whiskey you won’t want to miss. But there’s one small catch: It’s only available if you’re flying first class on All Nippon Airways (ANA) or Japan Airlines (JAL).

Here’s what we know about this exclusive, in-flight-only Hibiki 100th Anniversary Whiskey by Suntory.

First Class Japanese Whiskey

Hibiki 100th Anniversary Whiskey / Suntory

The Hibiki 100th Anniversary Edition was crafted to celebrate Suntory’s long-standing legacy and devotion to Japanese culture. The heritage inspired bottle design perfectly aligns with this, with a unique 24-facet cut, symbolising the 24 hours in a day and the 24 Japanese seasons.

The blend itself is crafted from some of the finest aged malt and grain whiskies, releasing notes of rose, lychee and sandalwood with a smooth honeyed sweetness and subtle Mizunara oak finish. It’s certainly a nuanced whiskey, perfect for collectors or connoisseurs who appreciate its distinctive craftsmanship.

The Exclusivity Factor

This special edition isn’t found in stores and is usually reserved for high-end hotels, restaurants and select bars across Japan. Now, ANA and JAL have made it available as a first-class in-flight duty-free item – a perk exclusive to those flying only in the most premium cabins.

But even if you’re one of the few flying first class, the purchase is strictly limited to one bottle per passenger. ANA offers the bottle for around ¥50,000 ($330), while JAL’s pricing is slightly higher at ¥60,000 ($395). Given how limited and exclusive this whiskey is, these prices are relatively accessible considering that some resellers are pricing unopened bottles as high as $1,799 online.

Offering rare items in-flight has a certain appeal, and people are loving it. The perfect way of making the already exclusive, more exclusive. The packaging is as stunning as the liquid itself, with a commemorative box design that adds to the attraction.

With resale values for the Hibiki 100th Anniversary Edition soaring, it’s no surprise that these rare in-flight items are not just collectibles but potential investments.

If you’re serious about your whiskey, it’s a no-brainer to pony up the first class fare and keep an eye out for this unique offer. Perfect to drink, as an investment, or a gift, it’s a top shelf experience you won’t find anywhere else – literally.
