Introducing the 250th Anniversary Breguet Classique Souscription

This year, Breguet celebrated its 250th anniversary with the release of the Classique Souscription 2025, a watch that pays homage to the brand’s incredibly rich history and the innovative spirit of its founder, Abraham-Louis Breguet.

This timepiece is a modern reinterpretation of the original Souscription pocket watch from the late 18th century, which was notable for its single-hand design and the unique subscription-based purchasing model introduced by Breguet.

Back in the late 1700s, Abraham-Louis Breguet did something unheard of, inventing a “Souscription” system — where customers would pay a deposit first, and wait for their watch to be built. It sounds normal today. But at the time, it was wild. It only worked because people trusted him. They believed that whatever Breguet was making, it would be worth it.

Fast-forward to 2025, and Breguet is tapping into that same spirit of trust and craftsmanship.

Breguet 250th Anniversary

The Classique Souscription 2025 features a 40mm case crafted from a proprietary 18K alloy known as Breguet gold—a blend of gold, silver, copper, and palladium. This alloy offers a warm, subtly pink hue reminiscent of the gold used by 18th-century watchmakers and is designed for enhanced durability and resistance to discoloration .

The watch’s dial is a pristine white grand feu enamel, adorned with black Breguet-style Arabic numerals and a single flame-blued, open-tipped hand that gracefully sweeps over the minute track. A discreet “secret” signature at 6 o’clock, visible only under certain light conditions, taps into Breguet’s historical efforts to combat counterfeiting.

Powering the watch is the hand-wound VS00 calibre, visible through the sapphire crystal caseback. This movement boasts a four-day power reserve and features a new guilloché pattern called Quai de l’Horloge, inspired by the curves of Paris’s Île de la Cité and Île Saint-Louis. The balance spring is made from Nivachron™, a non-magnetic alloy that enhances the watch’s resistance to temperature variations, magnetic fields, and shocks.

The Classique Souscription 2025 is priced at £45,700 and is a testament to Breguet’s enduring legacy in the world of horology.
